TikTok star Taylor Frankie Paul, a Mormon mother of three in Salt Lake City, has come a long way since she was arrested for domestic violence last year following a fight with her boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen.
The incident and more eventful parts of Paulβs life will be showcased on the reality show βThe Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,β premiering Friday on Hulu.
In an exclusive interview with The Post, the 30-year-old influencer explained how being put in handcuffs impacted her as an individual and her relationship with Mortensen.
βI actually love this question because, yes it was obviously one of the worst nights ever,β she said. βBut for me, it changed our relationship because I finally got help.β
βI feel like I was really struggling post-divorce,β Paul explained. βI lost a baby and then I had a chemical pregnancy, so there was just so much in little time, while Iβm obviously healing from a divorce. It was so much, and everything was public.β
Paul made headlines in 2022 when she announced her divorce from husband Tate Paul, who is the father of her two eldest children, after they participated in a βsoft swingingβ group with other members in the Mormon βMomTokβ community.
The reality star moved on with Mortensen, but their relationship went haywire in February 2023 when they got into a fight that led to Paulβs arrest. She allegedly threw a phone, a wooden play set and βheavy metal chairsβ at Mortensen, and one of the chairs apparently hit one of her children.
Paul was charged with aggravated assault but avoided jail time after taking a plea deal. Her other charges β two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, child abuse with injury and criminal mischief β were all dismissed with prejudice.
A few months before the incident, Paul announced she was expecting her first baby with Mortensen, but she then suffered an ectopic pregnancy.
βI think I just, you know, went a little crazy and I could not take the pain,β Paul told The Post.
βAnd I felt like that night, as bad as it was, was a really big wake-up call,β she acknowledged. βLike, βTaylor, you need to get help.β So I immediately got into classes, went to therapy and changed for the better. And also I havenβt drank alcohol since.β
βSo itβs been a really good thing for me,β Paul added. βAs bad as it was, it was really a lesson learned.β
After getting past her legal troubles, Paul and Mortensen welcomed their first child together, son Ever, this March.
While Paulβs now a happy mom of three, she admitted that her relationship with Mortensen β a major storyline on the Hulu show β is far from perfect today.
βWeβre doing good. A lot better. I donβt want to say weβre in this perfect relationship because weβre not, and you see that [on the show] and how it ends,β she said.
βWe still have so much work to go through,β Paul went on. βAnd I feel like as soon as we can come to terms with ourselves is when our relationship is going to be better. We have a lot of stuff internally that we struggle with, which makes it really hard on our relationship.β
All eight episodes of βThe Secret Lives of Mormon Wivesβ will be released Friday on Hulu.
