It’s all love between the Lennon brothers.
Sean Ono Lennon reposted a message on his Instagram Stories Monday that seemingly shut down rumors of tension between Sean, 49, and his half-brother Julian Lennon, 62.
The message, shared by the fan account “ceoofjohnlennon,” read, “Here, we do not accept comparisons and erroneous creations of fights about two people that John Lennon loved the most: his children :).”
The post featured a photo of the late musician’s sons at the 1986 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony for the induction of Elvis Presley.
Julian was born in 1963 to John and Cynthia Lennon. The former couple divorced five years later. Cynthia died in 2015 at age 75.
Meanwhile, Sean’s mom is John’s second wife, Yoko Ono. John and Yoko, 92, were married until the Beatles legend’s death in 1980.
The brothers are both musicians like their dad. Julian has released seven studio albums, while Sean has been in several bands including his parents’ group, Plastic Ono Band.
Sean told People in Nov. 2024 that he learned to play music as a way of connecting with his late father.
“I lost my father and I didn’t know how to fill that void. Learning how to play his songs on guitar was a way to process the loss with an activity that made me feel connected to him,” he explained. “When you’ve lost a parent, things like that motivate you — because you’re trying to find them. Making music always made me feel like I was getting to know him better. ”
Last year, John’s sons hung out at the Dakota, the New York City apartment building where he was murdered in front of. Julian never lived at the Dakota, but Sean grew up there.
Julian shared black-and-white pictures of the siblings bonding in his Dec. 2024 Instagram post. He kissed Sean’s cheek in one of the snapshots.
“A Goodnight kiss for my brother, after spending the evening with him, having a lil dinner & chatting the night away, at The Dakota. Something we rarely get to do…Thankful,” Julian captioned his post.
In 2022, Julian told The Independent that he and Sean call each other “at least a couple of times a month.”
“We’re more than brothers, we’re such good friends,” Julian said. “I wish we had more time together.”
That same year, Julian told People that the siblings speak often and bond over music, food, exercise and photography.
“We’re brothers and we love each other deeply on that level,” Julian shared. “We just talk daily, same as anybody would.”
Julian and Sean were 17 and 5 years old, respectively, when their dad died.
John was famously shot and killed by Mark David Chapman in front of the Dakota on Dec. 8, 1980 when he was 40 years old.
Three years earlier, the “Hey Jude” singer took a memorable photo with his sons at the Dakota for the holidays.
