The foursome participated in a panel discussion in front of an audience of fans of the beloved sitcom.

“I’m just emotional here,” said Winkler, 79, in a video from the event. “This is the first time that we have appeared this way in 50 years.”

After the audience cheered, Howard, 71, joked, “It feels like 50 minutes.”

“We’re having so much fun hanging, and this is sort of our great excuse to come together, so thank you,” the filmmaker added. “It’s just been a great show.”

In “Happy Days,” Howard played Richie Cunningham and Winkler played Richie’s friend, Fonzie.

Richie’s other pals, Potsie and Ralph, were portrayed by Williams, 75, and Most, 71, respectively.

At the panel, Winkler said of the show’s creator, “First of all, Garry Marshall was, like, a brilliant creator, a great writer. They chose a wonderful cast — some of them, unfortunately, are no longer on the earth with us — but we played together, we stayed together, and we worked hard together.”

“I say that was a huge key,” added Howard. “The show evolved as, really, an ensemble. So that idea of we were like a family, well, okay, maybe not a family, but we were a unit, we were a community, and also, I think for us, it was kind of like our coming of age story. We were just growing up through this process.”

The “Happy Days” actors who have passed away include Tom Bosley (Howard), Erin Moran (Joanie), Pat Morita (Arnold) and Al Molinaro (Al). Marion Ross, Scott Baio, Lynda Goodfriend, Cathy Silvers, Ted McGinley and Linda Purl also starred in the show.

The series premiered on ABC on January 15, 1974. It spanned 11 seasons, with a total of 255 half-hour episodes before concluding on July 19, 1984.

Three decades after the show ended, the cast reunited in 2004 for the “Happy Days 30th Anniversary Reunion” at the rebuilt set of the iconic drive-in Arnold’s. The two-hour ABC special aired on Feb. 3, 2005.

More recently, Howard and Winkler appeared in a “Happy Days” reunion at the 2024 Emmy Awards. They did a sweet skit on a recreated set of Arnold’s Drive-In and chatted around the jukebox just like their characters did on the show.

Before Steel City Con, Winkler did an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette where he talked about how grateful he is for “Happy Days.”

“I loved doing that show. What that show gave me in my life, on every level, the warmth that I receive walking through the world because of that character,” the actor said.

He added: “For 50 years, people have come up to me everywhere in the world and metaphysically embraced me.”
