Hollywood is lucky that Ricky Gervais isn’t hosting the 2025 Golden Globes.
The 63-year-old comedian hosted the award ceremony five times before, but this year Nikki Glaser is emceeing Sunday’s show.
However, Gervais took to X (formerly on Twitter) on Friday to reveal the jokes he would’ve told if he was the host.
“Sat in the bath wondering about what I would say if I were hosting The Golden Globes on Sunday,” Gervais wrote alongside a selfie of him in the bath.
“It’s been a pretty good year for material,” he added with a laughing emoji.
Gervais then revealed his planned monologue: “Hello, and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globe awards. What a year it’s been. Hundreds of entertainers jumped at the chance to go to The Vatican to meet The Pope. Many from Hollywood. Obviously they weren’t content with only being part of the 2nd biggest pedo ring in the world…”
He continued, “Justin Timberlake was convicted of [drunk driving]. If he’d have gone to jail he’d have heard the words ‘Sexy Back’ a lot more often.”
Gervais also went after Sean “Diddy” Combs, writing, “Kevin Hart said that being at one of Diddy’s parties was uncomfortable, as he wouldn’t leave him alone. Eventually he had to shout ‘Imma Midget, not a child.’”
Fans praised Gervais’ jokes on X and also expressed their disappointment that he’s not hosting the show.
“You never disappoint. HILARIOUS!” one fan tweeted.
“Omg, keep them coming. So funny,” another person said.
A third fan wrote, “You are on a roll! Hit us again!”
“them globes missing good material tonight,” a different fan added.
“I really wish you were hosting the Golden Globes again,” someone else said.
Gervais hosted the Golden Globes in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2020.
During his last hosting stint, Gervais roasted Hollywood in his wild opening monologue. He went after Leonardo DiCaprio for dating younger women, the failed “Cats” movie, and Martin Scorsese’s feud with Marvel.
He also brought up Jeffrey Epstein’s death and the college admissions scandal, which were huge news stories at the time of the January 2020 ceremony.
In 2021, Gervais told The Guardian why he goes after celebrities while hosting award shows.
“Do I pander to the 200 billionaires in the room or the 200 million people at home sitting in their [underwear] drinking beer who aren’t winning awards, who aren’t billionaires? It’s a no-brainer for a comedian,” he said. “I’m a jester. I play to the other peasants in the mud.”
Ahead of her historic 2025 Golden Globes hosting stint, Glaser, 40, said on CBS Morning that Gervais gave her advice, including to just “be yourself”
Glaser said Gervais also told her, “You’ve not one of them. Don’t try to walk out there acting like you’re an A-lister. Just because you’re invited—you wouldn’t be if you weren’t the host.”
In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Glaser said, “I’m not gonna go so hard that anyone’s gonna be offended. I’ve made a point not to, and that’s not to disappoint anyone who’s hoping I’m going to pull a Ricky Gervais. I’m not Ricky Gervais.”
“This isn’t my last Golden Globes, this is my first one. He really went hard on his last one. He was ready to burn some bridges [because] it didn’t matter anymore,” she added.
The 2025 Golden Globes begin airing at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
