Country music star Reba McEntire slammed artificial intelligence this week after a series of AI-generated photos appeared to suggest Dolly Parton was dying, forcing the “Jolene” star to speak out and dismiss the rumors.
“You tell ’em, Dolly,” McEntire, 70, said in a video shared to her Instagram Stories on Thursday. “That AI mess has got us doing all kinds of crazy things. You’re out there dying, I’m out here having a baby.”
“Well, both of us know you’re too young, and I’m too old for any of that kind of nonsense,” the fellow Queen of Country added before tagging Parton, 79.
McEntire did, however, wish the “Islands in the Stream” singer well as she continues to suffer “health challenges” that have left fans concerned.
“But you better know I’m praying for you. I love you with all my heart, and I can’t wait to see you soon,” the “Fancy” singer concluded. “Love you!” McEntire captioned the clip: “Too old to die, too young for babies.”
Concerns regarding Parton’s health kicked off when she announced that she was postponing her Las Vegas residency dates on Sept. 28.
At the time, the country music star said that she was “dealing with some health challenges” and “my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures.”
But Parton’s younger sister, Freida, caused further alarm when she asked fans to pray for the “Here You Come Again” songstress in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
Although Freida later clarified that she “didn’t mean to scare anyone” or “make it sound so serious” when she asked for prayers for her famous older sister, Parton still took to Instagram to set the record straight on the concerns surrounding her health.
“I know lately, everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am,” the 11-time Grammy winner began Wednesday. “Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here!”
“I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease, those of you that seemed to be real concerned, which I appreciate and I appreciate your prayers ’cause I’m a person of faith,” she continued.
Parton then admitted that she “didn’t take care of myself” following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, in March, and that she “let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of.”
The “I Will Always Love You” writer also laughed about an AI-generated image depicting McEntire praying and wiping away tears as a dying Parton, hooked up to a tube, lies in a hospital bed.
“Did you see that AI picture of Reba and me? Oh lordy, I mean, they had Reba at my death bed and we both looked like we need to be buried,” she joked.
“But I thought, oh my lord, but if I was really dying, I don’t think Reba would be the one at my death bed,” Parton added. “She might come visit me earlier.”
As for McEntire’s remark about “that AI mess” showing her “out here having a baby,” she was referring to another recently viral AI-generated image depicting the “I’m a Survivor” hitmaker with her fiancé, Rex Linn, while cradling a pregnant belly and holding up an ultrasound photo.
