Royal faux pas.
Queen Camilla raised eyebrows when she asked a Welsh actress if sheβd lost weight while visiting South Wales with King Charles last week.
The incident unfolded as the royal couple toured Cyfarthfa Castle as part of the monarchβs 77th birthday celebrations on Nov. 14.
βHavenβt you lost masses of weight?β Camilla, 78, asked βGavin & Staceyβ star Ruth Jones during the awkward moment, per a clip of the exchange obtained by a Daily Mail reporter and shared to X.
βYes, I have, thank you!β Jones, 59, responded with a laugh. βIβve lost a bit of weight!β
Jones, who co-wrote and co-starred in the UK hit βGavin & Staceyβ with James Corden from 2007 to 2010, first made headlines for her impressive weight loss when she shed nearly 60 pounds in 2011.
She later opened up about her process in a joint interview with Corden on Jessie and Lennie Wareβs βTable Mannersβ podcast last year.
Jones revealed that celebrity hypnotist Paul McKenna helped her give up chocolate by using βaversion therapy,β which involved her thinking about the sweet before alternating and thinking about mushy peas until the two became linked.
βI hate the word βstruggledβ with my weight, but I have been in a battle with my weight all of my life, as long as I can remember,β the comedian said. βI canβt ever remember being slim.β
βAnyway, it worked. It completely worked,β she added, regarding the treatment. βI didnβt eat chocolate for five years. I couldnβt stand the smell of it.β
Jones made headlines again more recently when the 2024 βGavin & Staceyβ Christmas special scored her the 2025 BAFTA Award for Best Female Comedy Performance.
Commentators, meanwhile, rushed to social media to criticize Camilla for asking the βStellaβ creator what they deemed such a βrudeβ question.
βRich people love talking about peopleβs weight for some reason,β one person wrote on X.
βHow rude of Camilla to discuss a celebrityβs weight issue in the public domain!β added another. βRude!β
βThatβs a rude comment, you donβt say that,β shared a third.
Others, however, thought differently about the exchange between Camilla and Jones.
βI am actually really happy if someone noticed I lost weight because it takes a lot of effort and itβs nice to be recognized,β one person tweeted.
βRuth looks fantastic. Absolutely adore her,β shared another, while a third commented, βAww Ruth looks fabulous and so healthy.β
Camilla previously crossed paths with Jones while hosting a receptionΒ to mark the 15th anniversary of the Women of the World (WOW) Foundation at Buckingham Palace in March.
Jones was one of many notable women to attend the event as Camilla, who has served as the foundationβs president since 2015, discussed the βdauntingβ task of βforging a gender-equal world.β
βSeeing you all here, I am filled with confidence that, together, we can make sure this happens,β the Queen said at the time.
