Wes Scantlin is facing legal trouble once again.
The Puddle of Mudd frontman, 52, was arrested on March 11 in Torrance, California, for domestic violence after police were notified of an alleged fight that occurred at his apartment, according to online records.
After speaking with Scantlin and his girlfriend, police determined that the couple’s verbal argument had escalated into a physical altercation, law enforcement sources told TMZ.
The singer’s girlfriend allegedly had visible marks on her arms, which led to Scantlin being taken into custody.
After being placed under arrest, the police searched the musician and reportedly discovered a small amount of drugs on him.
Scantlin is allegedly facing felony charges for domestic violence and possession of a controlled substance, per TMZ; however, his lawyer, Robert Hankoff, told Page Six, “There is an extensive amount of misinformation being reported.”
“There was no felony domestic violence arrest,” his attorney claimed. “He is dealing with a misdemeanor domestic violence case, and we expect he will be vindicated when all of the facts come to light.”
While Scantlin’s “charge level” was for a felony, Hankoff claimed it pertained to the controlled substance charge and not the domestic violence charge.
The musician was taken into custody shortly after 4:00 a.m. local time and booked into jail at around 5:12 a.m., according to People. The rocker was released on Saturday, March 15, after posting bond.
He now has two upcoming court appearances: one on March 28 and the second on April 15.
Earlier this month, Scantlin sparked public concern after performing at a charity concert in Daytona, Florida, where he seemed off. The star later claimed he “was roofied” by one of his ex-bandmates before the show started, reported Vice.
In a video posted to Facebook, a fan asked Scantlin about the performance, to which he responded, “I suck, I suck and I suck but I was roofied.”
He claimed the ex-bandmate “roofied me last night, so he can go f–k his ass.”
Last summer, the vocalist was arrested in California after a standoff with SWAT.
Scantlin was pulled over for an alleged traffic violation but already had a warrant out for possession of a weapon at an airport.
Scantlin refused to exit his vehicle, and a “crisis negotiator” was allegedly brought in. After failed attempts to have the musician exit his vehicle, Scantlin was pepper-sprayed.
Scantlin was treated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital before being booked at the Burbank Jail for his warrant and resisting arrest.
Scantlin has been the only consistent member of Puddle of Mudd since the band was formed in 1992.
While speaking to Soundsphere in 2020, he shared his definition of success.
“At the beginning of life, when you accomplish something that you don’t receive any kind of money or pay or anything, but inside of your heart and soul and mind gives you joy, that to me is success,” he stated.
“What I like to do is to look in the mirror, and I just look straight into my own eyes, and I just look at myself in the mirror and go, ‘You can do this, you can do this, you can be better, you can be better, you can be a better way, and you can help and believe in yourself,’” he added.
