Paris Hilton doesn’t believe she’s ever gotten a handout.
The famous heiress, 44, sparked backlash for boldly claiming in a new interview with The Sunday Times that she’s rich all on her own.
“I’m self-made. Like, I’ve done this all on my own,” Paris said about her media business, 11:11 Media, that is now valued at $1 billion with 25 employees.
“No one’s ever given me anything in my entire life,” she added.
Paris’ grandfather was late billionaire Barron Hilton. When he died in 2019, Barron left 97% of his wealth to the Hilton family’s foundation and nothing to Paris.
But her parents, Kathy Hilton and Rick Hilton, have a combined net worth in the hundreds of millions.
On Reddit, fans roasted the “Simple Life” star for her “self-made” comments.
“That’s epic narcissism,” one fan wrote in a thread about Paris’ interview.
“She’s also delusional so thats my hot take ;-),” another fan said.
Someone else argued, “Even if you didn’t take seed money, handouts, or other direct support, there’s a huge difference between the kinds of risks someone coming from a background of wealth and security can take and someone just trying to keep food on the table can take.”
“If you weren’t a Hilton then you wouldn’t be as big as you are,” a different person pointed out, adding, “Yes you made a name for yourself but its because you came from wealth and a household name.”
“Yes, she hit the home run of wealth and fame. But her family started her on third base,” another comment read.
Someone else noted that while Paris probably put in “a lot of work” to reach her level of success, the famous socialite “also wouldn’t be known at all if it wasn’t for the background of generational wealth.”
“She has no idea of her privileges she has,” the same person concluded.
Elsewhere in her interview, Paris looked back on her relationship with her late grandfather.
“We were extremely close and we would always have lunches and dinners, and he would always say to me, ‘Paris, you work harder than any CEO I know,’” Paris recalled. “And he’s, like, ‘I used to be known as Barron Hilton but now I’m known as Paris Hilton’s grandpa. We would always laugh about it.”
Paris, who grew up in the party scene in Los Angeles, also told The Sunday Times that she “live such a sheltered life.”
“Like, I was not allowed to wear make-up, not allowed to go on dates,” she shared. “I didn’t really go to the school dances. My parents were very, very strict.”
When asked about her partying days, Paris replied, “I was just like any other young girl — growing up, going out — but I had the whole world watching. The media, especially the tabloids, they love to sensationalize everything.”
