32 years after “Hocus Pocus” hit theaters in 1993, actress Stephanie Faracy is rocking her iconic Madonna Halloween costume on another beloved project.
The star, 73, portrayed the titular character, Max Dennison’s mom, Jenny, in the Disney classic and now plays Lynn, the mother of Kristen Bell’s Joanne on “Nobody Wants This.”
The red look mirrors Madonna’s Blond Ambition tour outfit that Faracy wore when the Sanderson sisters performed their “I Put a Spell On You” musical number in “Hocus Pocus.”
In episode six of the Netflix rom-com series, Faracy rocked the cone bra, high pony and headset – but this time in all gold.
“Mom, you look insane,” Joanne says to Lynn in the scene.
“Thank you, sweetie,” she responds. “Jewish Halloween is so fun!”
“Hocus Pocus” follows Max, his sister Dani (Thora Birch) and Allison (Vinessa Shaw), who light a magic candle that resurrects three vengeful witches: Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy) on Halloween night.
Tobias Jelinek, who played bully Jay alongside fellow bully Ice (Larry Bagby), wasn’t asked back for the 2022 sequel, “Hocus Pocus 2,” but would be open to reprising his role for the third film.
The third movie is currently in development at Disney.
“If it was done right, I know for a fact Larry would make sure we both did it,” Jelinek told Entertainment Weekly. “I would want something with Omri and Vinessa, and we also have to get Jason Marsden in there to be the voice of [the black cat] Binx. I’d flip over that opportunity, because we’ve all become really close friends.”
In 2023, writer Jen D’Angelo revealed to the outlet that she was in the early phases of planning the new project.
“We’re still working on it. We’ve been working on some ideas, and it’s been fun to dive back into that world and we have so many directions in which to go and so many new characters to explore,” she confessed.
In 2024, Midler, 79, urged Disney to complete the script for “Hocus Pocus 3.”
“I haven’t seen the script, but I’ve heard rumblings,” she admitted while on Busy Philipps’ “Busy This Week” talk show. “But I haven’t seen anything.”
Midler added, “I think if they’re gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!”
Midler also shared that she was surprised “Hocus Pocus” became so popular after it was met with critical reviews upon its release.
“When it first came out, it was like … I don’t wanna use the word dud, but I will use it in this context,” the actress explained. “As the years went on, cumulatively it got more and more and more of an audience until it became a cult classic.”
