Rebecca Gayheart is sharing how she and her family are doing amid husband Eric Daneβs ALS diagnosis.
The βBeverly Hills, 90210β alum, 54, said she and the βEuphoriaβ starβs, 52,Β two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, are βtaking it day by day.β
βWe have some professional therapists who are helping us, and weβre just trying to have some hope and do it with dignity, grace and love,β Gayheart added.
As she put it: βI mean, itβs heartbreaking. My girls are really suffering, and weβre just trying to get through it. Itβs a tough time.β
ALS is a rare degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord along with causing progressive loss of muscle control. The disease has long been nickname Lou Gehrigβs disease after the iconic baseball player who had the condition in the 1930s.Β
Gayheart andΒ Dane tied the knot in 2004. In 2018, the actressΒ filed for divorce.
However, Gayheart filed to dismiss their divorceΒ in March.
The βJawbreakerβ star told People about Daneβs diagnosis: βI donβt think Iβm at a place yet where I can pull out a positive nugget. Iβm not there yet.β
βI mean, weβre definitely dealing with something that has brought us all together, and Eric will always be my family, whether weβre married or not, or living in the same house or not, but yeah, we are closer, but we donβt like the reason why,β she said. βItβs a horrible disease, and I wish that there was a cure. I hope they find one soon, because it is just so sad.β
βWe are best of friends. We are really close. We are great coparents,β Gayheart toldΒ E! NewsΒ in April about their relationship status. βWe really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well.β
Despite their ups and downs, the βUrban Legendβ star doesnβt consider their relationship any less of a success.
βI think itβs important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. Itβs just a season,β confessed Gayheart. βIt wasnβt a failure. It was a huge success. We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think thatβs a successful relationship, and thatβs how we look at it.β
A day after Gayheartβs comments, Dane announced he hasΒ amyotrophic lateral sclerosisΒ (ALS).
βI have been diagnosed with ALS,β he toldΒ PeopleΒ in a statement at the time. βI am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.β
βI feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of EUPHORIA next week,β the actor continued. βI kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.β
Dane is set to reprise his role as Cal Jacobs, the father of Jacob Elordiβs character, Nate Jacobs, on Season 3 of the HBO drama.
After years of delays, the βLast Shipβ actor began filming his scenes on April 14, per People.
Following Daneβs admission, GayheartΒ posted a photo of herself and their daughtersΒ via Instagram.
βHolding onto my girls tight and loving them hard today,β she penned. βSo many broken hearts and shattered dreams.β
Earlier this month, Dane missed out on his planned appearanceΒ at theΒ 2025 Emmy Awards.
Hours later, he showed up in a video on Instagram to promote a new campaign to help find a cure for ALS.
Dane sported a navy T-shirt that read βI AM ALS,β and addressed his diagnosis while showing signs of the neurodegenerative condition.
βIβm Eric. An actor, a father and now a person living with ALS,β he saidΒ in the clip. βFor over a century, ALS has been incurable, and weβre done accepting the status quo. We need the fastest path to a cure and thatβs why I partnered with I AM ALS on the Push for Progress. Our goal? A billion dollars over the next three years.β
Dane spoke slowly and occasionally slurred his words while his arms twitched uncontrollably at times.
I AM ALS responded about these movements, stating that the βbrutalβ disease βaffects all muscles in the body, including vocal and throat muscles.β
However, Dane is staying positive about his future.
βTogether, weβll renew the landmark law ACT for ALS, get promising treatments to thousands of patients like me. And finally, finally push towards ending this disease,β vowed the star.
βThereβs so much to learn. More to do and we have to do it now,β Dane said, while asking his followers to βvisit the link below to donate. Get involved and be a part of pushing for progress.β
