Malcolm-Jamal Warner is set to make his final onscreen appearance.
The late actor, who drowned in Costa Rica at the age of 54 in July, will appear on Season 2 of Fox’s mystery series “Murder in a Small Town.”
Warner will guest star in episode 3, titled “Mother Love,” on Oct. 7.
According to the synopsis, Warner plays Richard Buscombe, a protective father who becomes a lead suspect in a murder investigation when his ex-wife is killed just after returning to town.
“Still heartbroken years after the split, Richard wears his anger and pain on his sleeve, but his only goal in life is to keep his daughter safe,” the description added.
Showrunner Ian Weir reminisced on working with Warner shortly before his tragic passing.
“His performance — as a struggling single dad, fiercely protective of his daughter — just glows with integrity,” Weir told People on Wednesday. “He found levels that I hadn’t imagined.”
He added, “We were really delighted when Malcolm agreed to join us as a guest star — and completely thrilled by the experience of working with him. He was such a leader and a gentleman. It’s such a terrible, tragic loss.”
“Murder in a Small Town” is based on the book series written by L.R. Wright and follows a procedural format.
Each episode sees the police chief Karl (Rossif Sutherland) investigate mysterious murders in his town.
Along the way, the officer gets help from other residents, including his girlfriend Cassandra, played by Kristin Kreuk.
Warner died while with his daughter in Costa Rica on July 20.
In August, his mother, Pamela Warner, took to Instagram to reveal that her son “did not suffer.”
“For those of you who are at a loss, pained by the suddenness of his departure, ache for his presence or just to hear his voice one more time, to see his beatific smile one more time, be comforted that he was at peace and more importantly, he did not suffer,” she wrote.
Pamela added, “Malcolm was birthed through water and transitioned through water. This was his time. His mission on earth had been completed.”
She also started the “Malcolm-Jamal Warner Living Legacy” account.
Pamela shared that the page would serve as the “official account honoring Malcolm-Jamal Warner” and that “in the weeks and months ahead, we’ll be sharing updates on the work being done in his memory.”
The Emmy-nominated actor’s mom also remembered Warner as an “exceptional husband, father, and son” who was “deeply in love with life, his wife, and his daughter.”
“He was a kind, loving man with a huge heart for humanity. He wanted all to be aware of their inner strength and that they could succeed, accomplish and transform,” Pamela said. “This was his latest mission and work, transformation, in order for you to be fully present in your life.”
“Malcolm left an indelible mark on the world and on countless hearts,” she added. “All who met him, however briefly, were better for the encounter.”
