This is a case for Benoit Blanc.
Director Rian Johnson, who has spearheaded all three “Knives Out” films, wants to find a way to bring Meryl Streep into the franchise.
“There are so many actors I haven’t worked with,” the 51-year-old told IndieWire. “That’s one of the real treats of making these movies is you get to experience new actors and these big casts.”
“If you’re reading this, Meryl Streep, I feel like you’d slot into a murder mystery very well,” he added.
And the Oscar winner, 76, recently made her “Saturday Night Live” debut, which gave Johnson hope.
“If Lorne [Michaels] can do it, then, goddamn, so can we,” stated the filmmaker.
“Knives Out” hit theaters in 2019, and introduced audiences to Daniel Craig’s detective Benoit Blanc.
The star-studded lineup included Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Christopher Plummer, Jamie Lee Curtis and Toni Collette.
In 2023, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” came out featuring Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Edward Norton, Leslie Odom Jr., Kathryn Hahn, Hugh Grant and Ethan Hawke.
The third installment, “Wake Up Dead Man,” debuted in theaters on Nov. 26 and will be streaming on Netflix on Dec. 12.
Andrew Scott, Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner and Kerry Washington are among the new cast.
Johnson shared with IndieWire that there is “a big change” in tone between the second and third films, explaining that “anger is one of the things you kind of have to have to be motivated to sit down to write something. With this one, it’s all stuff I care very deeply about.”
“For me, personally, these movies are working with Daniel,” the director gushed. “It’s a partnership. And the instant either one of us feels even slightly like not doing it, we’ll stop doing it.”
The Post’s movie critic Johnny Oleksinski wrote that “‘Knives Out’ is always a good time.”
“But generally speaking, the movies are zanier than they are engrossing or even mysterious. The resolution in No. 2 was, erm, a stretch. Then came this sneaky one — my surprise favorite of the Benoit Blanc trilogy,” he added.
Meanwhile, Streep has been booked and busy these past few years, starring in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” for the past three seasons and filming the highly anticipated “Devil Wears Prada” sequel.
In August, pictures circulated of Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt shooting “Devil Wears Prada 2” in New York City.
Emmy-winning costume designer Molly Rogers wasn’t thrilled that the set photos were out.
“You know, people are just gonna get burned out with all the paparazzi shots,” she told The Post at the time.
“There’s people monetizing my work. That are identifying every single thing they wear,” Rogers continued.
Streep and her co-stars were identified as sporting outfits from Dries Van Noten, Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, Dior, Coach, and more high-end designers.
“It’s just such a shame,” the costume designer continued. “A lot of times, you feel like you’ve already seen the movie just by the exterior shots.”
Rogers also acknowledged that if a scene involves characters “doing a walk and talk in New York,” then “you can’t do anything about” bystanders taking photos.
