A suspect has officially been charged in the murder of “Parks and Recreation” star Jonathan Joss.

The late actor’s neighbor, Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, was indicted for one count of murder by a grand jury in Bexar County, Texas, on Monday, according to Bexar County court records obtained by People.

Ceja Alvarez had previously been arrested on a charge of first-degree murder following Joss’ death before being released.

Joss, whose legal name was Jonathan Joss Gonzales, was fatally shot outside his San Antonio home following an alleged fight with Ceja Alvarez on June 1. He was 59.

The “King of the Hill” voice actor was reportedly found lying “near the roadway” when authorities were dispatched to a shooting in progress, and arrested Ceja Alvarez.

Although police claimed Ceja Alvarez confessed to shooting and killing Joss, he was released on a $200,000 bail bond one day later.

Tristan Kern de Gonzales, Joss’ husband, claimed that the “Tulsa King” star had been a victim of a homophobic hate crime.

“He was laughing,” Kern de Gonzales said of Ceja Alvarez after the shooting. “He mocked me for telling my husband that I loved him and used the same homophobic slurs.”

“I was just really looking down at my husband, focused on him, making sure that he had completely crossed over,” Joss’ husband added.

The San Antonio Police Department initially said that their investigation discovered “no evidence to indicate that Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation,” but Chief of Police William McManus later walked back that initial statement.

“That was way, way, way, premature,” McManus said during a press conference amid the investigation. “We shouldn’t have done it. It was way too soon before we had any real information. And I will own that.”

“I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the tragic loss of Mr. Joss, which has been heavily felt,” he added. “Our homicide detectives are continuing to pursue every lead in this case to ensure that we understand the full picture of what led up to the senseless murder of Mr. Joss.”

Joss joined “King of the Hill” as the voice for John Redcorn in 1996 and remained on the animated sitcom until its 13th and seemingly final season in 2009.

He was reportedly set to reprise his role for the revival, which was released in its entirety on Hulu two months after he was fatally shot.

“Rest in peace, Jonathan Joss,” the show’s co-creators wrote on Instagram after Joss’ death. “Jonathan brought King of the Hill’s ‘John Redcorn’ to life for over a dozen seasons, including in the upcoming revival.”

Several of Joss’ “Parks and Recreation” co-stars paid tribute to the late actor.

Joss starred in the NBC sitcom as Chief Ken Hotate, the leader of the Native American Wamapoke Tribe, from 2011 through 2015.

“The cast has been texting together about it all day and we’re just heartbroken,” Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson) said in a statement to People at the time.

“Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate,” Offerman added. “A terrible tragedy.”

“Damn. RIP Jonathan,” Chris Pratt, who starred in “Parks and Recreation” alongside both Offerman and Joss, wrote on social media. “Always such a kind dude.”

“Sad to see,” Pratt added. “Prayers up. Hug your loved ones.”
