Kate Middleton’s college roommate has shared a never-before-seen photo of her and the future queen.

Laura Warshauer, who roomed with the future Princess of Wales at St. Salvator’s Hall during their first year at Scotland’s St. Andrews University in 2001 — the same halls of residence where Prince William lived that year — posted the photo of herself with Kate on Instagram in July, though it’s only now circulating online.

In the photo taken at a party that William and Kate hosted at their off-campus Hope St. house, which they moved into during their second year at St. Andrews with two other friends, Fergus Boyd and Olivia Bleasdale, Kate and her former roommate smile while enjoying a sweet treat — brownie bites.

“Sending love to Kate Middleton, the future Queen of England and my university dormmate!” Warshauer captioned the photo. “This was us at a Hope Street flat party. I have the loveliest college memories with Kate.”

“She is the kindest, most caring, down-to-earth, genuine person, and it’s incredible to see her shining so brightly and inspiring the world with her compassion and courage,” Warshauer added.

William and Kate graduated from St. Andrews in 2005.

Posted on Jul. 18, Warshauer shared the photo four months after the princess revealed to the world that she had cancer in a video released on Mar. 22. The royal received the diagnosis after having a planned abdominal surgery in January, which led doctors to discover the cancer. She then began a preventative course of chemotherapy and was absent from private life until her March announcement, spurring countless conspiracy theories about her absence.

Warshauer, now a singer-songwriter, also happened to post the photo on the same day that Kate shared a series of Instagram stories, voicing her support of the London Natural History Museum, signaling she was slowly returning to some of her royal duties she had stepped aside from to focus on her cancer battle.

The party picture also came just four days after Kate made a splash at Wimbledon, receiving a standing ovation as she took center court for the Men’s Final.

Kate announced she had completed chemotherapy on Sep. 9, declaring she was “cancer-free.” She has since returned to work, gradually undertaking official royal engagements once more. She is expected to make a public appearance at The Cenotaph war memorial in London on Nov. 10 to mark Remembrance Day.

Warshauer previously spoke about her college friendship with William and Kate after the couple got engaged in 2010. “I remember the first time I met Kate, thinking, ‘Wow,’” she told People at the time. “She just had a lovely way about her.”

Of Prince William, Warshauer said, “When he was around, it wasn’t like there was all this pomp and circumstance. He could literally just walk around as a normal guy and people didn’t make a big deal of it.”

The St. Andrews alum also recalled the moment Kate was voted “prettiest girl” in St. Salvator’s Hall at the end of their first year.

“There were applause, and she was wearing this cool black off-the-shoulder shirt,” Warshauer remembered. “She’s very grounded, and that sense of ease comes through in the way she carries herself and the way she just graciously walked up and accepted this award.”

“She’s obviously stunning, but she doesn’t act in any way like, ‘Oh, I’m this gorgeous person.’ Kate was just genuine. And I don’t feel like she’ll ever change.”

To commemorate their wedding, Warshauer wrote a song for the couple titled “To Will and Kate, Meet Me at Exit 109.”

Warshauer is no longer in touch with the royals but still cherishes the memories she shared with them. “There was just such an innocence about it,” she told People in 2011. “I look at my pictures, and I can see the romance and the magic.”
