Blondes have more fun?
In recent months, Kate Middleton has opted to rock a lighter hair color for the first time. Now, after her long, bright blond locks have made headlines, the Princess of Wales, 43, is confessing her secret.
On Wednesday, Middleton attended the Royal Variety Performance alongside her husband Prince William in London.
While at the concert, the royal told actress Su Pollard what spurred her change in hair color.
The British singer, 76, said she complimented Middleton, telling her: “I like your hair, it looks a lot lighter,” per the Daily Mail.
“It used to be brown, but it’s gone light in the sunshine,” the princess reportedly responded.
In September, Middleton stepped out with William, 43, at the Natural History Museum’s gardens in London, and showed off her caramel blonde locks.
This marked the first time the Princess of Wales sported a lighter tone on her thick, long hair.
However, two days later, while at the Women’s Rugby World Cup, Middleton’s hair was notably darker. This time it looked like the princess was back to her brunette roots.
Meanwhile, while at the Royal Variety Performance earlier this week, Middleton shared an sweet moment with singer Jessie J.
Afterwards, the musician, 37, explained that she and the mom of three were speaking about their respective cancer journeys.
According to The Independent, Jessie, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, stated: “Mum to mum, who has just recently gone through cancer, I just wanted to give her a hug.”
The artist added, “We acknowledged that it’s something that is not easy to go through, especially in the public eye.”
Jessie J revealed she was diagnosed with “early breast cancer” in June. A month later, she updated fans that her cancer had not spread after undergoing a successful surgery.
Princess Kate, for her part, announced that she was being treated for cancer in March 2024. That September, she announced she was cancer-free.
“I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” Middleton wrote on X at the time. “Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long, and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
Princess Kate noted she was “looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”
The Royal Variety Performance on Wednesday ended up serving as Princess Kate and Prince William’s first time stepping out on a red carpet together in two years.
The Princess of Wales, who shares Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, with the Prince of Wales, first returned to work in September 2024, after completing her preventative chemotherapy.
In July, Middleton opened up about life after treatment.
“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,” she expressed while at Colchester Hospital in Essex, England.
“You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,” she detailed.
Middleton also offered advice of her own.
“You have to find your new normal and that takes time…and it’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be. But the reality is you go through hard times.”
