Kate Middleton shared a hopeful and inspiring message for her Christmas carol service after battling cancer.
According to The Sun, the Princess of Wales, 42, recorded the message as part of her annual “Together at Christmas” service that she hosted earlier this month and will be televised on Christmas Eve.
“Welcome to our ‘Together at Christmas’ carol service here at Westminster Abbey,” Middleton began her message. “Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year, it is a time for presents, tinsel and mince pies, but it’s also a time to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all.”
“It is when we stop and take ourselves away from the pressures of daily life, that we find the space to live our lives with an open heart, with love, kindness and forgiveness, so much of what the Christmas spirit is all about,” she continued.
Middleton went on, “The Christmas story encourages us to consider the experiences and feelings of others. It also reflects our own vulnerabilities and reminds us of the importance of giving and receiving empathy, as well as just how much we need each other in spite of our differences. Above all else, it encourages us to turn to love, not fear. The love that we show ourselves and the love we show others. Love that listens with empathy, love that is kind and understanding, love that is forgiving, and love that brings joy and hope.”
“It is love which is the greatest gift we can receive, not just at Christmas but every day of our lives,” she said. “Across the United Kingdom there are so many inspiring people embracing those in need. This carol service is a heartfelt celebration of every one of you, and a reminder that at Christmas, and throughout the year, we must all shine for each other. Because in times of joy and sadness, we are all each other’s light.”
“I wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas,” she concluded her message.
Middleton hosted her fourth annual Christmas carol service on Friday, Dec. 6 at Westminster Abbey in London.
The princess arrived at the event early without her family to greet the volunteers, reported People.
She wore a long red coat with an oversized black velvet bow at the collar. Middleton accessorized her festive look with pearl drop earrings and tall black boots.
Prince William later arrived with their three children — sons Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, 6, and daughter Princess Charlotte, 9 — and was greeted by Middleton outside.
The family took a moment to look at the “Kindness Tree,” where guests dedicate a decoration to someone who has been a source of support in their lives, before taking their seats inside the ceremony.
The Christmas carol service continued Middleton’s return to royal duties following her cancer treatment that began in February.
The mom of three revealed that she was cancer-free in September.
“I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” Middleton shared in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
“Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
A source for the palace later shared that Middleton is “not back to normal” just yet after finishing chemo, but there’s “light at the end of the tunnel.”
Middleton spent most of 2024 behind closed doors as she prioritized treatment and recovery.
