Kate Hudson is looking back on her acting career.
The “Almost Famous” star, 46, opened up about her nearly 30 years in Hollywood and the “biggest gifts” she’s received while premiering her upcoming film, “Song Sung Blue,” at AFI Fest in Los Angeles on Oct. 26.
“I think the first thing that comes to mind is the people that I’ve met, the connections, they always feel like my biggest gifts,” Hudson told People during the premiere.
“I feel so lucky to be involved in a world of people that are just so endlessly fascinating and intelligent and wild and live outside of – even if they strive – to live outside of the norm,” the “Glass Onion” star added.
Hudson, who is the daughter of Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn and musician Bill Hudson, made her film debut in the 1998 indie movie “Desert Blue.”
But it wasn’t until two years later that she landed her breakout role as Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe’s 2000 musical drama “Almost Famous.” She earned a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and an Oscar nomination for the role.
Hudson’s latest project, meanwhile, features her and Hugh Jackman as a married couple performing in a Neil Diamond tribute band called Lightning & Thunder.
Titled “Song Sung Blue,” the upcoming biopic is based on a 2008 documentary of the same name.
“All I ever wanted to do was do musicals,” the “Fool’s Gold” star said of her upcoming movie. “This obviously isn’t, but this movie in particular is everything that I’ve studied throughout my life or my career.”
“I get to do in one film, and that doesn’t happen very often,” she added before praising the flick’s writer and director. “I’m just so happy that Craig Brewer wanted me to do it.”
As for how she got into character to play Claire Sardina opposite Jackman’s Mike Sardina, Hudson said that “it was the hair.”
“The second my hot rollers went in and they came out, I just felt like a completely different person,” she shared.
After opening up about her “Song Sung Blue” look, the “Deepwater Horizon” star went on to gush about Claire Sardina and the character’s outlook on life.
“There’s something about Claire, she has this love for life,” Hudson explained. “Even in the darkest moments, when you get to know her, she just powers through with this light and joy, and wants to make everything happy.”
“And there’s something about that energy that I just tapped into a little bit,” she added.
Hudson also revealed that she had the opportunity to meet the real Neil Diamond while filming “Song Sung Blue,” and that it gave her a new perspective on him and his music.
“Getting to know him was also just a real dream,” the “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” actress said. “He’s so wonderful and kind and loving, and his family is great.”
“But Neil has this thing – he brings people together. It’s this kind of music,” she continued. “It’s so American, and then at the same time, it like just makes people happy.”
“There’s something about the songs that he writes,” Hudson concluded. “It makes people want to put their arms around each other and sing it.”
