Jude Law has ruined Christmas for many fans of โThe Holiday.โ
The actor, 51, spoke about the beloved 2006 holiday classic during a recent interview on BBC Radio 2โsย โThe Zoe Ball Breakfast Show,โ breaking many fansโ hearts by revealing that the movieโs idyllic Rosehill Cottage nestled in the English countryside โฆ doesnโt exist.
โI mean, I find it just, honestly glorious,โ Law said of the filmโs devotees who rewatch it every year.
Law plays Graham, a charming single-father of two in the flick, opposite Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jack Black.
When conversation turned towards stories about being able to Airbnb the cozy Surrey bungalow where Winsletโs character Iris lives, Law lowered the boom on co-hosts Zoe Ball and Kerry Godliman.
โThat cottage doesnโt exist,โ the actor said, stunning Ball and Godliman.
โSo the director โ sheโs a bit of a perfectionist,โ Law continued, referring to romantic comedy queen Nancy Meyers. โShe toured the whole area and didnโt quite find the chocolate box cottage she was looking for. So she just hired a field and drew it, and had someone build it.โ
โBut hereโs the funny thing, if you watch it,โ he added. โSo, we were shooting it in the winter here and every time Iโd go in that door we cut and we shot the interior in LA about three months later.โ
The news was all too shocking for Ball and Godliman. โPlease stop!โ Godliman begged. โWe donโt want to hear any more!โ Ball said, covering her ears. โI canโt bear it.โ
Godliman added, โThatโs really upsetting. We canโt bear it.โ
โI just burst the bubble! Sorry!โ Law added with a mischievous grin.
Fans were equally upset.
โAnd thatโs how Jude Law stole Christmas,โ one person commented on Instagram. โI cannot believe it!!!! I could cry,โ another shared.
Many of the movieโs most die-hard devotees refused to believe Law. โSorry Judeโฆ.this is all real and always will beโฆ.you will never shatter my dreams,โ someone wrote. โHeโs lying ๐ I donโt care what he says itโs all a lie,โ one in-denial movie lover posted.
Another incensed fan commented, โblasphemy!!!!โ while someone else exclaimed, โWhat a spoiler!!!โ
Meyers had previously revealed the cottage was not real and in fact the product of Hollywood magic in a portion of the the filmโs DVD commentary.
โWe built that wall and we put in those trees. It really was just an empty field. It was a real tourist attraction while it was there,โ Meyers said.
However, the cottageโs time on this earth was short-lived. โBut itโs gone now,โ she shared, adding that it was torn down once filming wrapped.
