Jennifer Love HewittΒ is the self-love whisperer.
The actress, 45, recently got candid on how ageism has played a part in her decadeslong career in Hollywood.
βI feel like fans pick this age that they love that they think represents you, and youβre never supposed to grow beyond that,β HewittΒ told Fox New DigitalΒ in an interview published on Thursday. βFor me, it was like me and my 20s. People seem to have a really hard time accepting that I donβt look that way anymore.β
The βTime of Your Lifeβ alum started acting at a young age onΒ βKids Incorporatedβ before landing her first big break at 16 years old as Sarah Reeves on FoxβsΒ βParty of Five.β
Two years later, she starred in the iconic 1997 slasher βI Know What You Did Last Summerβ and its sequel. Along with several popular television shows, includingΒ βGhost Whispererβ and βThe Client List,β Hewitt has recorded four studio albums.
The βHeartbreakersβ vet βΒ who shares kids Autumn, 11, Atticus, 9, and Aidan, 3, withΒ husbandΒ Brian Hallisay β added that she doesnβt want her children to see those types of negative comments.
βI have a daughter, Iβm sensitive to it because I donβt want my kids to read those things and feel that way β¦ or worry about me being hurt by it β¦ itβs hard to do that sometimes,β Hewitt explained.
The singer noted, βItβs hard because I think as humans, we want to evolve β¦ we want to have lines on our faces, and you know, our boobs be lower from breast-feeding our children, or you know, our buttβs bigger.β
βWhatever it is, you just want to have the freedom to be whoever you are at that age. And itβs hurtful sometimes when people reject you as you are verbally on Instagram or the internet because theyβre having a hard time adjusting to it.β
Although the βHoliday Junkieβ star has seen the publicβs response to her getting older, Hewitt still loves where she is today.
βAge is age,β she continued. βI think women really come into this β¦ acceptance of themselves and comfortability in their 40s that is beautiful. I love being in my 40s. I really do.β
Last year, Hewitt clapped back at claims she was βunrecognizableβ after sharing a photo with a filter and no makeup on Instagram. Many commented that she looked vastly different.Β
βThe picture ended up somewhere. And a bunch of people were like, βJennifer Love Hewitt is unrecognizable,’β she recalled on the βInside of You with Michael Rosenbaumβ podcast at the time.
ββSheβs unrecognizable and so sheβs gone to filters because she doesnβt want us to know how bad she actually looks now in her 40s.β And I was like, βThis is crazy.β Right?β
Acknowledging her physique back in the day, Hewitt quipped, βShe was a looker,β but added that βat 23, 24, 25, I didnβt feel self-confident.β
βI felt watched. I felt like I had to be everything for everybody all the time,β she elaborated. βI was called sexy before I ever knew what being sexy was. I was 17 years old on the cover of Maxim, and I had no idea why.β
Hewitt even recounted an experience during filming the 2001 film βHeartbreakersβ where she was told to βbe sexierβ on the rom-com set.
βI know that Iβm supposed to be this thing for people, but I donβt know what that means,β she told a producer at the time.
Touching on the publicβs perception, Hewitt said, βItβs weird for me when people are like, βThatβs the girl that we wanted you to be.ββ
βThat girl was so insecure and so confused and trying her best. But this girl β who may not look [that] way β I like who I am. I feel good. Iβm fine.β
βIβm a mother of a girl, and itβs dangerous what we put on people,β Hewitt stated. βItβs dangerous to say to women, βYou canβt look like youβre not 22 to me anymore.’β
