Her Friday is getting freaky.Β
Jamie Lee Curtis said sheβs preparing to leave the spotlight β in part thanks to her experience of watching her famous parentsβ careers as they aged, and thanks to watching plastic surgery take off.
βI witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood, when the industry rejected them at a certain age,β Curtis, 66, told The Guardian, in an interview published Saturday.Β
βI watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone,β she added. βAnd thatβs very painful.β
The βHalloweenβ starβs famous parents were Janet Leigh β who was in Alfred Hitchcockβs βPsycho,β and Tony Curtis (βSome Like It Hotβ).Β
Leigh died in 2004 at age 77, while her dad died in 2010 at age 85. They were married from 1951 until their 1962 divorce.Β
Curtis also slammed plastic surgery as being βthe genocide of a generation of women by the cosmeceutical industrial complex, whoβve disfigured themselves.βΒ
βThe Last Showgirlβ actress has been married to British actor Christopher Guest since 1984, and shares daughters Ruby, 29, and Annie, 38, with him.
βI believe that we have wiped out a generation or two of natural human [appearance],β she explained. βThe concept that you can alter the way you look through chemicals, surgical procedures, fillers β thereβs a disfigurement of generations of predominantly women who are altering their appearances.β
She blasted AI as aiding and abetting this, βbecause now the filter face is what people want. Iβm not filtered right now. The minute I lay a filter on and you see the before and after, itβs hard not to go: βOh, well that looks better.β But whatβs better? Better is fake.β
Curtis did not name names of celebs who have admitted to getting plastic surgery, such as the Kardashians.
βThere are too many examples β I will not name them β but very recently we have had a big onslaught through media, many of those people,β she stated.
Despite her plans to step back from the spotlight, Curtis still has a recent slew of hot projects, as well as upcoming movies and TV shows.
She finally won an Oscar in 2024 (for βbest supporting actressβ in βEverything Everywhere All At Onceβ), and has a recurring side role as Carmyβs (Jeremy Allen White) mother in the Emmy-winning drama βThe Bear,β which has been renewed for a Season 5.
Sheβs also in the βFreaky Fridayβ sequel βFreakier Friday,β (hitting theaters Aug. 8) and she recently confirmed that she will take over the late Angela Lansburyβs iconic role of Jessica Fletcher in a βMurder, She Wroteβ reboot.Β
Coming up, sheβll film βElla McCayβ alongside Woody Harrelson and her βThe Bearβ co-star Ayo Edebiri (premiering in December) and will star. in the Prime Video series βScarpettaβ with Nicole Kidman (which doesnβt have an announced premiere date yet).Β
βI have been self-retiring for 30 years. I have been prepping to get out, so that I donβt have to suffer the same as my family did,β she told The Guardian. βI want to leave the party before Iβm no longer invited.β
βI have become quite brusque,β the βTrue Liesβ actress added. βAnd I have no problem saying: βBack the fβk off.ββ
