Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena shunned the Hollywood spotlight in the years before his tragic death at age 47 on Friday.

However, the intensely private Plaza did speak publicly about her filmmaker husband several times prior to his passing.

The couple, who began dating in 2011, married in a spontaneous 2021 ceremony amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The marriage was just like a joke that honestly went to far,” Plaza quipped during an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show that same year. “We got married on a whim. Literally decided at around 5 p.m. and got married at 8:30.”

Reflecting on their wedding attire, Plaza continued: “Jeff got really into tie-dyeing during the quarantine so I decided that we were going to wear tie-dye pajamas that Jeff had made for us…. I had my little rosemary crown and a love altar in the backyard of all of our love objects. It was very witch-core but it happened.”

The “Parks and Recreation” star also touched on balancing her personal and professional relationship with Baena, as the two collaborated on several films together, including “Life After Beth” and “The Little Hours.”

“It’s so great, it’s so complicated,” Plaza told Barrymore about working with her husband. “It’s, like, extreme highs and extreme, you know, complications. It’s a really hard thing to navigate, but we’ve been together for 11 years. We just muscle our way through it.”

That same year, Plaza also spoke to People magazine about how the Covid-19 pandemic has strengthened her romance with Baena.

“We were quarantined for months and months like everybody else,” she gushed. “And we did enjoy it. I think it was, obviously other than all of the catastrophic things happening in the world, just on a personal level, relationship level, was kind of nice to just be forced to be in one place for that long.”

Baena and Plaza started dating in 2011 and kept their romance largely private over the years, never officially announcing their engagement or wedding.

But in May 2021, Plaza referred to Baena as her “darling husband” in an Instagram post.

“So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to Italia to cause some more trouble,” the caption said.

Baena was found dead by an assistant Friday morning at his home in the Los Angeles area, TMZ first reported.

Law enforcement sources told the outlet that police and fire responded to the home around 10:30 AM for a death investigation.

The director was pronounced dead at the scene with law enforcement reportedly saying he died by suicide.

The Post has reached out to a Plaza’s rep for comment.
