A dog rescue shelter started by “Impractical Jokers” star Joe Gatto is rebranding shortly after a TikTok user accused the comedian of sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager.
Gatto, 48, allegedly sexually assaulted the then 19-year-old fan when he invited her back to his hotel room a couple of hours after a meet-and-greet in 2023, the woman said.
He denied all accusations and voluntarily entered an in-patient facility to “continue working on [himself],” Gatto announced last Wednesday.
After the alleged victim came forward with her story, another woman who claimed to have worked with Gatto during his time on “Impractical Jokers” accused him of sexual harassment.
Now, his Long Island-based rescue shelter, previously known as Gatto Pups and Friends, has changed its name to Cannoli’s Sweet Life Senior Rescue, his wife Bessy Gatto announced on Instagram.
“Formerly known as Gatto Pups and Friends, Cannoli’s Sweet Life Senior Rescue is here to continue being what this rescue and page were only ever designed for—saving the lives of senior dogs in need, and finding their forever homes. Now, we are just focusing a bit more on the dogs that helped get us here,” Bessy Gatto wrote.
Bessy made no mention of her husband in the announcement and focused on how the shelter’s brand will transition to focus primarily on senior dogs.
During his time on “Impractical Jokers,” Gatto frequently spoke about his dogs, who were all named after Italian desserts. They were all rescue dogs, which he often mentioned on the show to encourage audiences to adopt instead of shopping at pet stores.
Since the rescue shelter was founded in 2022, more than 200 senior dogs have been rescued and 135 have found loving homes, according to Bessy’s post.
