Kenan Thompson is still reeling from the “shock” of his Nickelodeon co-star Michelle Trachtenberg’s death.
The “Saturday Night Live” star, 46, addressed her sudden passing in an interview with E! News published on Monday, March 10.
The Post exclusively reported that Trachtenberg was found died on February 26 at age 39.
“It was such a shock,” Kenan told the outlet, revealing how he discovered the upsetting news.
“I got that text from my business partner Johnny [Ryan Jr.] and I didn’t understand what the headline was. I just saw her picture, and it was like, ‘Pass away.’ Those are the two words that I saw and I was like, ‘That’s not right. Why would that be the case?’”
Trachtenberg rose to fame on Nickelodeon in the ’90s alongside Thompson.
Sources told The Post that the “Gossip Girl” alum had undergone a liver transplant within the last year, suggesting that her body may have rejected the organ.
The insiders also claimed she died of natural causes; however, her cause of death was ruled “undetermined” after her family objected to an autopsy.
Following Trachtenberg’s passing, an insider told Us Weekly that “something felt off,” adding, “She was really frail and had been sick for a while.”
Thompson touched on the late star’s alleged health woes.
“If she was suffering, it would have been nice to have been one of the people that might have been able to ease some of that suffering,” he said. “Anything like that. If she needed a shoulder or an extra ear.”
The comedian made sure to note, “She’s loved. I just hope that there’s no more pain now.”
While their paths rarely crossed since their days as child stars, Thompson shared he was still in contact with Trachtenberg on social media, though not as frequently as he would have liked.
“I was semi-going back-and-forth with her on Instagram, just randomly,” he stated. “When we did Good Burger, she was like, ‘Where’s my cameo? Happy for you guys.’ I wish it was a lot less sporadic. Just [make] sure that you know what people are going through.”
Thompson was among many celebrities who paid tribute to Trachtenberg after her death.
“Our first Nick movie star has departed us!!” he captioned a post. “She was my friend and now she rests!! 🙏🏾.”
He added, “Check on your people!!! ❤️.”
Trachtenberg’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar and fellow “Gossip Girl” alum Blake Lively also shared touching posts in her memory.
The Post recently spoke to Trachtenberg’s producing partner, Casey Tebo, who shared that he and her boyfriend, talent agent Jay Cohen, were still planning to make her last project become a reality.
Before her death, the actress had written a script called “Toy Monster,” which gained interest from several studios. But, he shared, development was stalled.
Tebo said that he and Cohen are determined to make Trachtenberg’s final project come to life “if it’s the last movie Jay and I ever make.”
