Quite the Harry situation.
Chloe Fineman revealed that Harry Styles bristled at her impression of him in the lead-up to his “SNL” hosting debut.
Speaking with “Chicken Shop Date” comedian Amelia Dimoldenberg on the “SNL” 50th anniversary special red carpet on Sunday, Fineman, 36, said that Styles was “devastated” by how she impersonated him.
“My Harry Styles is really bad,” the “SNL” cast member admitted. “I did it and he was at the table and was so devastated by how bad it was.”
Fineman then gave a quick sample of her take on the musician. “Anyway, I’m Harry Styles, anyway,” she said in a stiff British accent.
The “SNL” regular also confessed to Dimoldenberg that she has “a bit of an obsession” with British accents. While she’s best known for impersonating American stars like Jennifer Coolidge and Drew Barrymore, Fineman went viral for her spot-on parody of Nicole Kidman’s iconic AMC commercial, earning top marks for her Aussie accent.
Styles hosted “Saturday Night Live” only once in November 2019, shortly after Fineman became a featured player on the show. They didn’t share any scenes together during that episode.
However, she did a sketch on “The Tonight Show” in 2021 that starred the show’s host, Jimmy Fallon, himself a former “SNL” cast member and known impressionist, playing the British singer.
Fineman imitated another Brit, “Fleabag” star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, in a scene where she spoke to Styles (as impersonated by Fallon) via FaceTime.
“Oh, Harry, hi. A FaceTime, quite cheeky,” Fineman says in her best take on Waller-Bridge. “Well, you’ve caught me in the middle of dinner, a cheesy, drippy little slut of a pizza.”
Fineman was among the current “SNL” cast celebrating the show’s 50th anniversary at the legendary Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center.
“The Red Carpet, SNL50,” the anniversary special’s official pre-show, was hosted by “Today” and “Morning Joe” anchor Willie Geist, alongside “SNL” alum Leslie Jones. The milestone celebration aired live on Sunday.
While Styles was not lampooned during the broadcast, another impression caught viewers’ attention. Former “SNL” cast member Eddie Murphy drew laughs when he impersonated fellow “SNL” alum Tracy Morgan — next to Tracy Morgan.
In the “Black Jeopardy” sketch led by Kenan Thompson, the “Good Burger” star turned to Murphy and the actual Morgan, who played a character named Darius, saying, “Darius, Tracy, y’all seem like you might be related.”
“Well, James Earl Jones is my biological father,” Murphy said at one point. “James Earl Jones impregnated my mother on the set of ‘Claudine.’ You know what? We might be related.”
An annoyed-looking Morgan responded, “I don’t see it.”
