Nikki Glaser knows what it feels like to be on the receiving end of a harsh joke.
The host of the upcoming Golden Globes, 40, revealed that a joke Pete Davidson once made about her body hurt her — and has stayed with her for years.
“I still think about some of the jokes that have been made about me from roasts six years ago, and they still haunt me,” Glaser said on Friday’s episode of “The Run-Through with Vogue” podcast.
“I’m seeing them when I look in the mirror. They will uncover things about you that you don’t even know about yourself, or it’s a thing you’ve always been, like, ‘I think this about me, but I’m just really mean to me. No one else has noticed that.’”
Glaser then pointed out a joke that Pete Davidson, 31, made at her expense, which still stings. Glaser says that the former “SNL” cast member once quipped that “I don’t have an ass” at a roast they both attended.
“I mean, I knew I didn’t, and I know I don’t,” the roast comic quipped.
[But] the fact that Pete Davidson had taken that in and, like, sat with it and — I sat with it too, and it hurts because I don’t have an ass — but the fact that he had really thought about it, or maybe someone wrote the joke for him … but he at least had to be like, ‘That works for her.’”
“It hurt me,” she added.
Glaser didn’t specify during which roast Davidson made the remark.
The only Comedy Central roast they both participated in was Rob Lowe’s in 2016.
“It’s my least favorite part of the show when I’m at a roast and I see my name come up on the teleprompter. I’m like, ‘Oh, here we go.’”
“How bad’s this gonna be?” she recalled thinking. “And then you like, laugh politely, and you just try to black it out. I mean, I think I cried at one of the after-parties because I was, like, so sad about something.”
But Glaser stressed that being able to take the burns from her fellow roasters in stride helps her feel empowered to not hold back during her set.
“I think that’s one of the reasons why I feel like I can get away with it is because I’m putting myself up here and open to this stuff too, so I should be able to say what I want,” she explained. “But it really is a part of it that sucks so, so deeply.”
“I would love to say, ‘Oh, it’s just a joke. Nothing ever really lands, and we don’t take it personally.’ But we absolutely do.”
Glaser even took a joke made about her at the Comedy Central Roast of Alec Baldwin in 2019 led her to get cosmetic procedures.
“Blake Griffin said I looked like Larry Bird, and the response from the crowd was so overwhelming — it killed so hard that I was like, I can’t deny that,” she confessed.
“That was the first time I ever went and got injections in my face in a way that was like, let’s restructure things. So, yeah, there’s consequences for sure.”
Glaser recently revealed that she delayed an “invasive” plastic surgery procedure because of her impending hosting duties at the 2025 Golden Globes.
“For January 2025, I was going to possibly have, like, a brow lift or some kind of, like, really invasive surgery that I’ve been, you know, looking into getting,” she told CBS in an interview posted Sunday.
Booking the Globes hosting gig made her change her plans though. After her agents approached her with the opportunity, she said they asked her, “So, this operation, is there any way you could push it ’til maybe the second week of January?’”
Glaser will host the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. The show will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.
