Paging Dr. Mark Sloan.

Eric Dane has revealed why he was mysteriously absent from the 2025 Emmy Awards last month.

The “Grey’s Anatomy” alum, who announced he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) back in April, explained that he lost his balance at home shortly before the ceremony and had split his head open.

“ALS is a nasty disease,” Dane, 52, told The Washington Post during an interview published Thursday, Oct. 2. “So I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head.”

Before the startling incident, the “Charmed” star was scheduled to present an award alongside former “Grey’s” co-star Jesse Williams in honor of the hit medical drama’s 20th anniversary.

Dane admitted that he was “really upset” about missing the moment, but acknowledged that “there was nothing I could do about it.”

“I missed an opportunity I was really looking forward to,” he told the outlet. “It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues, I thought, would have been a special moment.”

Williams, who portrayed Dr. Jackson Avery on the popular ABC drama, went on to present the award for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series alone. But before hitting the stage, Williams praised Dane and compared his former co-star to a “brother.”

“I loved working with him,” he said during the Emmys red carpet. “On and off screen, that’s my brother.”

At the time, it was unclear why Dane wasn’t able to attend the biggest night in TV. Emmys producer Jesse Collins later addressed the beloved actor’s absence during a chat with Variety.

“I don’t know the details of that,” Collins said at the time. “I just was told that he wasn’t able to make it. And fortunately, Jesse was able to present by himself.”

Dane, who called off his divorce from wife Rebecca Gayheart in March, first shared his ALS diagnosis with the world on April 10 in a statement to People.

“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” he shared. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”

“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of ‘Euphoria’ next week,” the actor added. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”

Dane has remained outspoken about his devastating diagnosis, and he revealed he only has one functioning arm during an appearance on “Good Morning America” in June.

“My left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working,” Dane explained. “[My left arm] is going. I feel like maybe in a couple more months, I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering.”

The “Marley & Me” star then recounted a time that he lost the function of his legs while snorkeling, which led to one of his daughters needing to rescue him.

“She dragged me back to the boat,” he shared. “I was like, breaking down in tears. I made sure she got back to the water with her friend and continued on with the snorkeling. I was just heartbroken.”

Most recently, Dane vowed to “fight to the last breath” during a meeting with US Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) in Washington, DC, earlier this week.

“ALS is the last thing they want to diagnose anybody with,” the “Gideon’s Crossing” alum said in a TikTok video while promoting his work with the I AM ALS nonprofit organization.

“So often, it takes all this time for these people to be diagnosed; well, then it precludes them from being a part of these clinical trials,” he continued. “That’s why ACT for ALS is so great, and it’s because it broadens the access for everybody.”
