Things donβt look so bad for Elton John.
The legendary singer, 77, tried to clarify comments heβs made about his vision problems while performing his presenter duties at the 2025 Golden Globes.
βThereβs been a lot of stories going around about my regressive eyesight,β John told the star-studded audience at the Hollywood Foreign Press Associationβs big night, as he and Brandi Carlile took the stage to give out the award for best original score. βI just wanted to reassure everybody that Itβs not as bad as it seems.β
βSo, Iβm so pleased to be here with my co-host Rihanna,β the βRocket Manβ singer then quipped to laughs from the guests inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles Sunday night.
The EGOT winner revealed in September that he lost his eyesight in his right eye after developing an infection last summer.
βI am healing, but itβs an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,β John wrote on Instagram at the time.
βItβs been a while since Iβve done anything. I just have to get off my backside,β John told Robin Roberts onΒ βGood Morning AmericaβΒ in November.
βI unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France,β he went on. βItβs been four months now since I havenβt been able to see. My left eye is not the greatest.β
βThereβs hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but Iβm kind of stuck in the moment, because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I donβt know,β John continued. βBecause I canβt see a lyric for start.β
βIt kind of floored me, and I canβt see anything,β the superstar also confessed. βI canβt read anything, I canβt watch anything.β
Regardless of his health woes, John described himself as βthe luckiest man in the world.β
The βBenny and the Jetsβ singer has previously opened up about other health woes heβs battled over the years.
John hasΒ had several organs removed and has had knee andΒ hip replacement surgeries.
He got a pacemaker in the 1990s for an irregular heartbeat, suffered a severe bout of influenza in 2009 that left him hospitalized, had an abscess discovered on his appendix in 2013 and endured a βgastric fluβ in 2016.
Years of performing concerts around the world have also left him with hearing loss.
