Being young and beautiful is not a crime, you know.
What could be considered criminal, though, is still not having a “Parent Trap” sequel. Nearly 30 years after starring in the beloved movie, Elaine Hendrix and Lindsay Lohan reunited in “Freakier Friday” — and the 54-year-old actress couldn’t help but gush over the all-grown-up star.
“She really is [killing it],” Hendrix exclusively told The Post after making her debut on “Dancing with the Stars.”
“I hadn’t seen her since she was a little girl. Since we did Parent Trap. And now that she’s all grown up, you know, we’re reconnected. We’re back in touch. And I just think she’s had an epic life,” Hendrix said.
“I feel like she’s had the life that every young woman should have,” added Hendrix. “She just happened to do it in the spotlight. So I just think it’s been epic. And I’m thrilled for her,” she explained. “I love where she’s at now.“
In the 1998 family comedy, “The Parent Trap,” the “Superstar” alum played Meredith Blake, the gold-digging fiancée of Dennis Quaid’s Nick Parker. The beloved Disney film follows twins Annie and Hallie (both played by Lohan, 39), who have never met until attending the same camp by happenstance.
American Hallie and British-raised Annie decide to swap places for a chance at spending time with the parent they’ve missed.
Now, years later, fans have started a justice for Meredith Blake movement on TikTok, including dressing like her, doing impressions and breaking down the ice queen’s motivation.
“Yes,” Hendrix confirmed when asked if she had seen the fandom’s response. “I have the millennials to thank for that because when you play a character, you always have to justify everything that you’re doing. So from day one, I said Meredith was not the villain, and I had no idea that all I needed to do was wait for the millennials to grow up and understand that. Now here we are.”
While millennials everywhere wait for a follow up to the iconic film, they did get a “Freaky Friday” sequel this past August.
Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reprised their roles as mother and daughter Tess and Anna Coleman in “Freakier Friday.” In the 2003 project, the two switch bodies right before Tess is set to marry her fiancé, Ryan (Mark Harmon).
This time around, there is a double body swap, as Anna’s daughter and stepdaughter-to-be get caught in the mix.
Hendrix played Blake Kale, a stylist, whose name and personality are reminiscent of the one and only Meredith Blake.
The “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” actress came aboard the project thanks to a dear friend of hers.
“I literally got a call from the director, Nisha Ganatra, who is a friend of mine, and she’s like, ‘Hey, will you come do this movie? Will you make a cameo in a movie that I’m directing?’ And I’m like, ‘Of course!’ I will do anything that Nisha asks me to do.”
After picking which scene she wanted to be in, Hendrix realized she should inquire what this unknown project even was.
“She’s like, ‘Oh, it’s ‘Freakier Friday,’” the star recalled. “And I’m like, ‘Oh, okay totally!’ And so apparently, everyone had had a conversation, and there I was.”
These days, Hendrix has also rebooted another past love: dance.
The singer has entered the ballroom to compete on Season 34 of “Dancing with the Stars,” alongside pro Alan Bersten.
During her first performance, Hendrix gave a nod to Meredith Blake, sporting her wide-brimmed, black hat from the movie, mimicking her wave and doing the well-known “Parent Trap” handshake that Annie and Hallie do in the film.
Meanwhile, her other “Parent Trap” co-star and bestie, Lisa Ann Walter, was in the audience cheering her on.
Eagle-eyed fans can expect to see a lot more of where that came from as the weeks go on.
“I don’t mean to brag, but a lot,” Hendrix gushed about other former co-stars who will come to support her. “I’m calling everybody like, ‘Make a video for me. Come to the show.’ I’m recruiting everyone.”
The producer, however, is no stranger to the ABC series, as her good friend Tom Bergeron used to host the competition show for over a decade from 2005 until he was fired in 2020.
Hendrix would even sit in the audience, watch the show and go out to dinner with the host, 70, afterwards.
One night in particular made the pair want to do a quick two-step from the sound stage.
“One time we went to the Grove,” Hendrix recounted, “and went to dinner afterwards, and some stuff started happening, and I’m like, ‘Tom, I think something’s going on.’ Next thing we know, the SWAT team is dropping from the roof of the restaurant, and we’re like, ‘Wait, what has happened?’ And somebody was in the bathroom with a shotgun. True story.”
“We didn’t get evacuated or anything, and then our poor waitress came over and just broke down with us. It was surreal,” added the “Dynasty” vet. “So Tom and I, we’ve had some real adventures.”
