Dick Van Dyke isnβt slowing down at his age
The 99-year-old Hollywood icon ran into singer Rick Springfield, 76, at the gym, leading the pair to take an epic workout picture together.
In Springfieldβs Instagram post shared Saturday, the duo flexed their muscles while smiling for the camera. Van Dyke sat at the biceps curl station while holding his cane in one of his hands.
βFilming an episode of Menβs Health and I went to the gym and who should be there but 99 year-old Dick Van Dyke working out on every machine,β Springfield wrote in his caption.
βDick has lived in Malibu for about 30 years and is an awesome human being,β the βJessieβs Girlβ singer added. βI thought I was doing well at 76, but Dick got up from the chest press machine and did a little dance step before I left! β€οΈ Amazing!β
In the comments, fans praised Van Dyke for his exercise regimen.
βHe is so amazing. What a great photo,β one fan wrote.
β99?!!!! Oh wow!! Zest for life.. gotta grab it and keep it,β another fan said.
βTwo living legends showing us what true strength looks like. Proof that passion, health, and joy keep you timeless. Truly inspiring!β a third person wrote.
Van Dyke previously revealed the secret to his health on Ted Dansonβs podcast,Β βWhere Everybody Knows Your Nameβ in January.
βSomebody said, βTo what do you attribute your age and physical condition?β Iβve always exercised three days a week,β he shared. βWe go to the gym still, and I think thatβs why Iβm not stove up like my equals.βΒ
Danson, 77, said on the podcast that heβd often see the βMary Poppinsβ actor at the gym.
βI would go to the same gym you did, and if I got there early enough, I would see you literally work out on some weight machine,β the βCheersβ alum said. βAnd then, almost like you were doing circuit training, you would not walk to the next machine, youβd dance. You literally danced to the next machine.β
Van Dyke also told Danson that his workout routine includes a lot of stretching, sit-ups and yoga.
In June, Van Dyke sparked health concerns when he dropped out of a comedy event last-minute.
His wife, Arlene Silver,Β explained at the time that Van Dyke was not having a βgood day.β
βWhen youβre 99 and a half years old, you have good days and bad days, and unfortunately, today is not a good day for him, and heβs sick that he canβt be here,β Silver told the audience at her husbandβs musical fundraising event, Vandy Camp.
During another Vandy Camp event in April, Van Dyke insistedΒ he has no plans of slowing downΒ even despite turning 100 later this year.
βIβm a ham. I love it. I get a jolt of energy from an audience,β he said.
