Dave Franco knows about those Luigi Mangione comparisons.
The actor, 39, was asked at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend about the internet’s call for him to play Mangione — the 26-year-old who allegedly shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, in NYC in Dec. 2024 — in a movie.
“I’ve never received more texts in my life about anything,” Franco said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter alongside his wife, Alison Brie, while promoting their new horror film, “Together.”
Franco added, “Not just friends — anyone who has my phone number has reached out about it.”
Brie, 42, pointed out that her husband hasn’t gotten “any official offers” yet for the potential role.
“No official [offers],” Franco confirmed.
After Mangione was accused of killing Thompson last month, Franco went viral on social media as fans compared him to the alleged gunman.
The “Neighbors” star reportedly experienced his third-most-popular week of Google searches in the last five years.
The comparisons between Franco and Mangione were even brought up in a “Saturday Night Live” sketch where Sarah Sherman played legal journalist Nancy Grace.
Sherman’s Grace joked that Mangione has “women and gay guys alike all hot and bothered,” and said he “looks like Dave Franco with Eugene Levy eyebrows.”
A scripted movie about Mangione has yet to be announced. However, there are several documentaries about the murder in the works, including one from Oscar winner Alex Gibney.
According to Deadline, Gibney’s doc will analyze “the crime’s seemingly meticulous execution to the alleged killer’s manifesto and his Ivy League background to the public’s unapologetic apathy towards the victim.”
Another documentary from two-time Emmy nominee Stephen Robert Morse will “explore the various perspectives of those embroiled in the murder and its aftermath, including the victims, their families and Mangione himself, as well as the moral complexities thrown up by Thompson’s murder,” according to Variety.
Mangione, an Ivy League-educated tech whiz, allegedly gunned down Thompson on West 54th Street in NYC on Dec. 4.
After a five-day nationwide manhunt, Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where he stopped at a local McDonald’s after getting off a Greyhound bus that was passing through town.
Authorities have accused Mangione of planning the murder months in advance over a gripe with the “parasitic” health insurance industry.
Mangione pleaded not guilty late last month to a slew of charges tied to the cold-blooded killing. He is being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center — the same jail housing Sean “Diddy” Combs.
