Cameron Diaz made a stunning return to the spotlight at the Berlin premiere of “Back in Action” on Wednesday, marking her first movie premiere in over a decade.
The event took place a little less than a week after the film’s New York premiere was canceled due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.
Diaz, who previously retired from acting in 2018, beamed as she walked the red carpet in Germany alongside her co-star Jamie Foxx.
Cutting a sophisticated figure, the 52-year-old star stunned in an on-trend combination of dark-wash, wide-legged jeans, a semi-sheer black top and a black double-breasted oversized topcoat. Diaz added some sparkle with Jennifer Fisher puffy dagger earrings and an Alexis Bittar clip earring. Her red nail polish and matching lipstick gave the look a classic Hollywood pop of color.
Ever the cool California girl, the “In Her Shoes” actress styled her hair in a messy but playful updo with loose curtain bangs framing her famously beautiful face.
Foxx, 57, also embraced a dark-hued outfit, wearing a black suit with a diagonal striped black and white striped trim, white shirt and black tie.
“Back in Action” is Diaz’s first film since 2014’s “Annie,” which she also starred in alongside Foxx. The Oscar-winner and the “Charlie’s Angels” alum first worked together in Oliver Stone’s 1999 sports drama “Any Given Sunday.”
In their new Netflix film, directed by Seth Gordon, Diaz and Foxx play Emily and Matt, two former CIA agents, who are pulled back into the dangerous world of espionage after their cover is blown. The star-studded cast also includes Glenn Close, Kyle Chandler, Andrew Scott, McKenna Roberts, Rylan Jackson, and Jamie Demetriou.
Diaz’s return to the screen was confirmed in June 2022, with Foxx later revealing that it was his promise of fun and memorable experiences that convinced her to come back to the screen.
“So it was literally, ‘Do you wanna have some fun? Just have some fun!’ And I think that’s what brought her to it,” Foxx told Entertainment Tonight in August 2022. “We miss special moments sometimes in our business, and I think this is a special moment. So we’re so happy that it’s happening and looking forward to it.”
Although production was briefly halted when Foxx experienced a medical emergency in April 2023, the actor was back on set with Diaz by January 2024 to finish filming.
“Back in Action” will be available to stream on Netflix starting Friday, Jan. 17.
