Bruce Willisโ wife has gone to great lengths to help him in his dementia battle.
Emma Heming Willis did a sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer that aired Tuesday night and revealed her famous husband, 70, is living in a โsecond homeโ nearby so he can get 24-hour care.
โIt was one of the hardest decisions that Iโve had to make so far,โ Emma, 47, said in the ABC special. โBut I knew, first and foremost, Bruce would want that for our daughters.โ
โYou know, he would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs,โ Emma added.
Emma noted that her and Willisโ daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, see their dad โa lotโ at the house, including for breakfast and dinner visits.
Willis โ who also shares daughters Rumer, 37,ย Scout, 34,ย andย Tallulah, 31, with ex-wife Demi Moore โ wasย diagnosed with frontotemporal dementiaย in 2023.
The neurological disorder mainly affects the areas of the brain that are associated with personality, behavior and language, according to the Mayo Clinic.
During the special, Emma revealed that the โDie Hardโ actorโs brain โis failing him.โ
โThe language is going,โ Emma shared. โWeโve learned to adapt and we have a way of communicating with him, which is just a different way.โ
However, the author clarified that her husband โis still very mobileโ and โis in really great health overall.โ
Emma also recalled how Willis exhibited subtle signs of something being off before he got his official diagnosis.
โFor someone who was very talkative and very engaged, he was just a little more quiet,โ she said. โWhen the family would get together, he would just melt a little bit.โ
โIt felt a little removed, very cold, not like Bruce, who was very warm and affectionate,โ Emma continued. โTo go the complete opposite of that was alarming and scary.โ
Willisโ health issues even took a toll on his relationship with Emma, whom heโs been married to since 2009.
โI didnโt understand what was happening,โ Emma told Sawyer, 79. โI just thought: Can I remain in a marriage that doesnโt feel like what we had? That doesnโt feel like a marriage anymore?โ
Emma said that she had โconversationsโ with Willis about their problems, but โhe would always just dismiss itโ until they learned why he was acting so different.
The mom of two did the interview to promote her new book, โThe Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path.โ
Emma opens up more about Willisโ health struggles in the book, out Sept. 9.
