Brandon Blackstock’s son is remembering his father after the talent manager’s shocking death last week at 48.
Seth Blackstock, who Blackstock shared with his first wife, Melissa Ashworth, took to Instagram this weekend to remember his late dad as his “best friend” and “hero.”
“I lost my hero yesterday,” Seth, 18, began on Saturday, Aug. 9. “Words can’t describe how proud of you I am on raising me and your 3 other kids. You were a father, a son, a brother, and most importantly my best friend. You’ll have to watch me grow up from a Birds Eye view now but that’s ok with me.”
“There’s no one else on this earth that I would want to be my dad because no one can be half the man you were to me,” he continued alongside six sweet photos with his late dad. “I’ll see you everyday when the sun rises and falls.”
“I can confidently say all the deer and elk took a sigh of relief when the best hunter I’ve ever known laid his rifle down for the last time,” Brandon’s son wrote. “I love you so much and can’t wait to throw a line in the water with you again.”
“Love you dad,” he concluded the touching post. “Be good or good at it -love your son Seth.”
Blackstock, who was married to Kelly Clarkson from 2013 to 2022 and shared two children with the “Since U Been Gone” singer, passed away Aug. 7 following a lengthy battle with melanoma, a serious form of skin cancer.
His family announced the shocking news in a statement obtained by The Post.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years,” they began.
“He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,” his family added. “We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis later confirmed to People that Blackstock, who was also Reba McEntire’s former stepson, died from melanoma at his home in Montana.
“Brandon Blackstock passed away peacefully at his home in Butte, Montana, on August 7th under hospice care surrounded by his family,” Hollis told the outlet Monday.
Clarkson, 43, had abruptly postponed the remaining August shows of her Las Vegas residency the day before her ex-husband’s passing.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she said in an Instagram statement.
“I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding,” Clarkson added.
The “Stronger” singer also broke down crying during a concert just days before her ex’s death.
Clarkson and Blackstock married in 2013. She later filed for divorce in 2020, and the exes were left fighting over custody of their two children, daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9.
However, the pair’s divorce was settled in 2022, and Clarkson was awarded primary custody of their kids.
Blackstock, meanwhile, walked away with $115K per month in spousal support until January 2024, as well as a monthly amount of $45K in child support.
Besides Seth, Blackstock also shared daughter Savannah, 23, with his first wife.
Clarkson was said to be “devastated” for her two children in the wake of their father’s tragic passing.
“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” an insider told People one day after Blackstock’s death.
“Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids,” they added.
Shelby Blackstock, Blackstock’s half-brother, also broke his silence on the beloved talent manager’s passing in the wake of his shocking death.
“Words cannot begin to capture the tremendous loss our family has endured,” Shelby, 35, said. “Yesterday, we lost a brother, a father, a grandfather, and a son.”
“Brandon Blackstock was an irreplaceable part of our family—funny, bright, and full of life—and he will be deeply missed,” Shelby added.
