Mika Amonsen isn’t feeling blue over the fandom backlash.

The “Boston Blue” star is responding to the online critiques after he was re-cast as Sean Reagan in the “Blue Bloods” spinoff.

The CBS series, which was canceled after 14 seasons in Dec. 2024, saw Andrew Terraciano as the son of Donnie Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan.

Now, Amonsen has stepped into the role of the youngest Reagan son.

“There’s been some negativity, for sure,” the actor told Us Weekly. “But when I look under those posts that have the negativity, there’s a lot of fans rallying for Sean and people saying that they really enjoyed this character that I’ve created — or my version of character.”

Amonsen added that he wants to please the “Blue Bloods” fans with his portrayal of Sean.

“They’re really enjoying the show,” he shared, “and they love where it’s going in terms of Sean and that makes me happy.”

“Boston Blue” follows Sean and Danny as they relocate to Beantown, with the rookie cop working as a patrolman for the Boston Police Department.

According to the character’s IMDb description, Sean has “committed himself to pursuing his family’s legacy but wanted to do so on his own terms, which meant joining a department outside of his hometown. Danny’s decision to stay in Boston gives this father and son duo a chance to reconnect on a deeper level.”

“I definitely felt a ton of pressure at first. I felt the pressure to respect an actor before me because I wanted to respect Andrew the best I could,” Amonsen revealed to the outlet. “There were even certain visual choices that I made that I wanted to keep in terms of hair styling and certain ways of being [as Sean].”

The “Thanksgiving” actor explained that he wanted to “maintain Sean as close as I can in the ways that I do it out of respect for this character that everyone loves.”

Amonsen reiterated that a goal of his was to pay homage to “the character Andrew built.”

“When I booked the show, it all happened really quickly,” continued the actor. “It was within about a week’s time and I was really thrown into it quickly. I did binge watch as much as I could and I found doing the later seasons was more helpful. I wanted to get a sense of who Sean was toward the end of the show. I really wanted to get a sense of his character at that point into adulthood and his relationship with Danny.”

Along with respecting “Andrew’s portrayal of Sean,” Amonsen added “something to my own version.”

“The showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis have been really good at giving me a lot of freedom to explore that new dynamic with Donnie,” he shared.

“Watching Andrew’s performance, I actually noticed a lot of similarities just between us as people, and our energy. It’s quite upbeat. I have a lot more of an upbeat energy myself. So that was a bit comforting. I definitely kept that within myself and didn’t feel like I was obligated to change that part of me — which was nice — in terms of making it my own.”

“Boston Blue” debuted in October, with Amonsen expressing that the “exploration of Sean being a cop wasn’t something that was on the table” in “Blue Bloods.”

“Of course, it is my own version of it but at the same time we haven’t seen this relationship with Sean and his dad before,” he noted.

That same month, Margolis, 45, revealed why he decided to re-cast the character.

“We love Andrew and the work he did over the years on ‘Blue Bloods,’” the co-showrunner told Variety at the time. “Really, it came down to we’re telling a new chapter in both of their lives.”

“It’s not just Sean who has joined the family business as it were and is turning over this new leaf,” Margolis continued, “but it’s also now Danny Reagan is the father to a cop, which he’s never been before.”

Now, there are “new storytelling lanes to explore,” which ultimately gave him and Sonnier, 43, “an organic opportunity to bring in a new performance with a new energy” to “help dramatize that change.”

“It’s the same character, it’s the same relationship, but it’s also completely different,” he shared. “We love what Mika has brought to Sean, this vulnerability, yet this desire to prove himself. It’s just been great to watch it come to life.”

While speaking to TVLine, Margolis said that he “loved” watching Terraciano, 22, “grow up on TV,” but it “creatively made sense to find an actor with a different energy.”

“It was a gamble to open the show on a new face – two new faces, actually – but the story required us to love him right away,” he confessed.

While the first season of the cop drama is underway, Wahlberg, 56, opened up last month about why he was initially hesitant to reprise his character.

“Suddenly it was like, ‘Do I really wanna do a spinoff?’ I didn’t know. And this idea was really good. And the script was really good,” he expressed. “I looked at it and I saw the possibilities of weaving the ‘Blue Bloods’ world into it, and I saw a chance to play Danny in a different way.”

But not all of the “Blue Bloods” cast is as eager to pop in for a cameo.

Tom Selleck told Hour Detroit earlier this month: “I don’t know if I would do ‘Boston Blue.’ That’s another show.”

“I think it’s partly my lot in life to make sure ‘Blue Bloods’ has its place in television history,” the 80-year-old, who portrayed the police commissioner and Wahlberg’s on-screen father, elaborated. “But I don’t think it’s my lot in life to keep playing Frank Reagan.”
