If there was one person who could handle Bob Saget, it was Kelly Rizzo.
Dave Coulier exclusively spoke to The Post about the widow of his former “Full House” co-star, who died at age 65 in January 2022.
“We just adore her,” Coulier, 64, said on behalf of the cast of the beloved sitcom, confirming that they’ve kept in touch with Rizzo, 45, in the two and a half years since Saget’s passing.
“She was the perfect person for Bob,” Coulier continued. “Because she dealt with all of his insanity and his isms and his idiosyncrasies. And, you know, Bob was a whirling dervish of neurotic energy that was really funny. Off the charts funny.”
Rizzo and Saget were married for four years when the actor tragically died. Saget’s autopsy determined that his death was an accident caused by blunt head trauma. He likely fell backward, fracturing the base of his skull and causing bleeding around the brain.
Coulier told The Post that Rizzo — who went public with her new boyfriend, “Clueless” actor Breckin Meyer, earlier this year — is holding up as best as she can.
“It’s one of those things where you look at the gift of life that Bob gave us, and we celebrate that. But we also realize that life continues forward,” he said.
“You can you can do one of two things. You can either fill the well the rest of your life with all these wonderful memories that we have, or you can trudge forward, you know, and feel like, ‘Oh gosh, he’s not here,’” Coulier explained. “So I think all of us collectively have just chosen the path of let’s celebrate Bob the rest of our lives. Because that’s the right thing to do and that’s what he would’ve wanted.”
Coulier is set to reunite with his “Full House” castmates Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber at 90s Con in Daytona Beach, Fla., this weekend.
While he misses Saget, he wants special events like 90s Con to continue to be a celebration of Saget and his legacy.
“Bob is always a celebration, no matter how dark we get,” Coulier said. “We know Bob would have been laughing along with us. So for us, it lets us keep his legacy and his life alive. And that’s what we want to do.”
He went on, “There are moments when we’ll have a group hug and we’ll just say, hey, let’s think about Bob for a second. Because he was the glue that held us together. He really was the dad of the entire group and would call everybody and text everybody a zillion times, and it drove us crazy at the time, but it really was his way of showing affection and love for all of us.”
The second anniversary of Saget’s death was in January 2024.
Rizzo honored the late star with a lengthy message about their six years together on the second anniversary of his death.
“2 years. Wow. Simultaneously feels like a week and an eternity,” she captioned a post of Saget with a guitar. “I chose this photo of Bob as not only was it the last photo he shared and one of the last texts he sent me, but it perfectly encapsulates how he would want all of us to remember him. With his guitar, on a stage, doing what he loved to do … making people laugh … making people happy.”
