High-flying problems.
Diplo was late to his virtual appearance on Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper’s New Year’s Eve special on Tuesday, and it had nothing to do with psychedelics, according to the “Watch What Happens Live” host.
Though admittedly high on LSD, the 46-year-old DJ’s trip was behind schedule because of a classic celebrity problem: his helicopter was late.
Cohen, 56, outed Diplo for being tardy to his and Cooper’s party during an interview with the New York Times on Wednesday.
“I thought Diplo — first of all, he was late because of his helicopter. And this is why I love live television,” the Bravo star said when asked about his favorite moments of the night.
“I just kind of very randomly was like, ‘Where is the most conventional place that you’ve been on L.S.D.?’ And he said it was there [live on air].“
Cohen added, “I mean, it was just a perfect ‘New Year’s Eve, you can’t plan this’ crazy moment.”
During the Tuesday telecast, Diplo confessed to being high, telling Cohen and Cooper, “Yeah, I did some [LSD] on the helicopter, on the way here.”
The “Elastic Heart” hitmaker went on to say, “It’s like a light trip” and that he was “microdosing,” but then added that he could have “microdosed” during the day.
Cooper was in awe of Diplo after his appearance.
“I wish I was Diplo. I got to say. I just think he has a fun, cool lifestyle,” the CNN anchor marveled. “Can you imagine his lifestyle? ‘I’m Diplo. I do things.’”
“I mean … I feel bad about my own boring life compared to Diplo’s,” Cooper continued.
“He’s got helicopters and he’s like doing things. He did like four shots while we were talking. And he’s going to play. How does he work? How does anybody do anything? I’ve had four shots. I just want to go to sleep.”
Diplo performed three shows at the Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles on NYE after appearing on Cooper and Cohen’s “New Year’s Eve Live” broadcast.
The music producer has previously disclosed that he does “a lot of LSD.”
Speaking with Esquire in May 2023, Diplo explained that when taking the psychedelic, he’s “not tripping and looking at the stars going ‘Whaaa?’”
“I micro-dose it, maybe a little more,” he said.
The Grammy-winning artist also shared that he was on LSD while running the LA Marathon.
“I was running really fast, but I wasn’t focusing on my body. I was having a conversation,” he recalled. “My body started to break down by mile 17. It was the longest I had ever ran and I didn’t even notice it. I attribute that to the LSD.”
He continued, “I wouldn’t recommend anyone else do it. I wanted to experiment. It made the time go by fast, and the worst thing about running is how boring it is. It’s boring as hell.”
