The past has come back to haunt Katy Perry.
A former “American Idol” contestant who was eliminated by Perry, 40, recently shared a TikTok where he gave his scathing reaction to her new song “OK.”
In the clip, Steven James listens to the track in the car with facial reactions that indicate he’s not a fan.
“This can’t be the same person who eliminated me on American Idol 5 years ago,” James wrote over the video, which has over 2.4 million plays.
James appeared on Season 17 of the ABC singing competition series in 2019. It was Perry’s second season as a judge alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
James’ video sparked a big reaction from others, some of whom joined in on trashing Perry’s song.
“This sounds like it was written for a Degrassi reboot,” one fan wrote in the comments section of the TikTok.
“Katy, this is not OK,” another critic wrote.
A third person added, “What in the PBS Kids is happening here.”
“This is not the same Katy Perry that made teenage dream,” another comment read.
The Post has reached out to Perry’s rep for comment.
“OK” was released earlier this month as part of the deluxe version of Perry’s latest album, “143.”
Perry came out with “143” after she announced she was leaving “American Idol” after seven seasons.
“I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America. But I need to feel that pulse of my own beat,” Perry said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in February when she shared the news. She’s being replaced by “American Idol” Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood.
The “Woman’s World” singer was the subject of several online rants by die-hard fans of the show, who complained about her provocative — and sometimes “rude” — coaching methods.
Perry received more fan hate over her latest album, which was lambasted by music critics.
She was slammed for collaborating on “143” with Dr. Luke, who was accused of drugging and raping Kesha (Dr. Luke denied the allegations and the pair settled their legal battle in June 2023).
Perry defended working with the music producer on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast in early September.
“Look, I understand that it started a lot of conversations. He was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with. But the reality is, it comes from me,” she said at the time.
“The truth is, I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis,” she continued. “And he was one of the people to help facilitate all that. One of the writers, one of the producers.”
