Her reaction says it all.
A$AP Rocky flew into Rihanna’s arms after being handed a not guilty verdict in his assault trial on Tuesday.
The rapper, 36, faced up to 24 years in prison if convicted of two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm stemming from an alleged 2021 altercation with his former friend, A$AP Relli.
After the verdict was read, Rocky almost collapsed, grabbing his lawyers for support before turning to Rihanna and his family sitting in the first row of the courtroom.
The crowd howled as he lunged forward into his significant other’s arms, with video catching Rihanna’s reaction from inside the courtroom.
In the clip streamed by Extra, the “Don’t Stop the Music” singer, 36, clutched to Rocky like she’d never let go. Nearly breaking down, Rihanna squeezed him tightly and pressed her lips together while his family joined in on the celebration.
When everyone gathered their composure, Rocky emotionally thanked the jury for “saving my life.” Rihanna posted on her Instagram Stories following the news. “The glory belongs to God and God alone! Thankful, humbled by his mercy,” she wrote.
Outside the courthouse, his lawyer, Joe Tacopina, demanded the Los Angeles District Attorney look at prosecuting Relli, whose real name is Terell Ephron.
“They have him admitting to perjury. They have him committing extortion. This jury saw through it and came to an enormously quick and speedy verdict, the right verdict,” Tacopina said.
He also showed Rocky and Rihanna love.
“They are seriously the greatest people. And I said I love them, and I really do love them,” Tacopina shared about the Hollywood couple.
“And I got emotional in my summation because I care about them. This is one of the happiest days of my life and I’m happy for them that they’ve earned this and deserve it,” he added.
The “Praise the Lord” rapper was charged with two felony counts in 2022 after Relli claimed Rocky shot him outside a Hollywood parking garage the year before.
The star denied the accusations, with his legal team claiming the weapon Rocky was holding during the altercation was a “prop gun” that he carried for his own security.
Police found no physical evidence of a shooting when they searched the alleged crime scene. However, Relli reportedly presented shell casings to the police days later, claiming he collected them from the shooting scene.
Rocky also turned down a plea deal offered by prosecutors that included a 180-day jail term.
Rihanna supported Rocky throughout the four-week trial, even bringing their children — RZA, 2, and Riot, 1 — to the courtroom last week. She was also the topic of conversation during jury selection, with Relli’s attorneys questioning whether she’d be a distraction if she came to support her beau at the trial.
The pair were first linked in 2019 but didn’t confirm their relationship until November 2020.
Rihanna opened up about her romance with Rocky to Interview magazine last spring.
“We’ve known each other for a long time. I’ve seen him in relationships. He’s seen me in relationships. We’ve seen each other outside of relationships,” she told the outlet. “We knew what we’re capable of, and the trouble that we could bring to each other’s lives. We can make or break each other’s hearts. And so we started dating with a lot of caution.”
